About

A monthly agility training series led by the Run Wild Agility instructor team, designed to help teams grow their skills, confidence, connection, and ring-readiness.

Each month has a training theme for focused training to develop strong skills in each. Individual workshops, coaching days, instructor-led practices, and fun matches sessions can be added as facility dates and instructor availability allow.

Dominique Hellmich

Dominique is a fun-loving and engaging instructor. She teaches a variety of classes at Run Wild but her main passion is agility. She had great success in AKC with her Lab, Sophie, and has been on many big-show podiums with her Border Collie, Nova and Coolie, Cinder. Most recently, for 2026, she and her young Mudi, Chirp, were on the short list for the Agility World Championships Team selection.

Karen Beattie Massey

Karen Beattie Massey

Karen has been involved in dog agility since 2002 with Maya, her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Maya became the top AKC Agility Cavalier for several years and earned 7 MACH titles, as well as obedience and rally titles. In addition to being a Certified Dog Training Professional she is an American Kennel Club Breeder of Merit (Pumi) and has been a member of the European Open Agility team the World Agility Open Team, IFCS World Team, and a finalist in AKC, UKI, and USDAA national events.

Saturday, August 1

9:00 AM – 11:30 AM

Distance Without Disconnecting

with Karen Beattie Massey

Handlers will work on sending, supporting from farther away, using timely cues, and trusting the dog’s understanding so the dog can work confidently at a distance without feeling abandoned, confused, or disconnected

12:00 PM – 2:30 PM

Weave Exits With Motion

with Karen Beattie Massey

This workshop focuses on helping dogs complete the weaves confidently and independently while the handler moves into the next position. Teams will work on maintaining weave performance through different exits, handler motion, lateral distance, and upcoming course lines so dogs can finish the weaves with clarity while handlers prepare for what comes next.

3:00 PM – 5:30 PM

Lateral Distance Skills

with Karen Beattie Massey

This workshop focuses on helping dogs work confidently beside and away from the handler while staying committed to the correct line. Teams will practice building lateral distance, supporting obstacle choices from farther away, and using clear cues so handlers can create space, move efficiently, and still keep the dog confident and connected.

Independence for Novice Dogs

This workshop focuses on helping novice dogs build confidence and understanding while beginning to work more independently. Teams will practice simple sends, obstacle focus, clear cueing, and age-appropriate independence skills so dogs can start learning their job without losing connection, confidence, or clarity.

Distance Handling Foundations

with Dominique Hellmich

  • Intermediate

This workshop focuses on introducing the core skills needed for successful distance handling. Teams will work on clear cues, obstacle focus, lateral distance, forward sends, and handler timing so dogs can begin working farther away with confidence while still understanding where to go and how to stay connected.

3:00 PM – 5:30 PM

Building Confidence Away From the Handler

  • Intermediate

This workshop focuses on helping dogs feel confident working at a distance without losing clarity or connection. Teams will practice simple sends, obstacle focus, reward placement, and clear support so dogs learn that moving away from the handler is fun, understandable, and rewarding.
